In eight days, “we will emerge as the clear winners,” declared Kyriakos Mitsotakis, leader of New Democracy and the Prime Minister, during a public gathering in Kypseli, a suburb in central Athens, on Saturday.
“I have traveled throughout Greece, and I will continue to do so until the very last moment of the campaign period. My aim is to persuade Greek men and women that we must continue on this path of success. We must look forward, set high goals, and avoid going back to the past at all costs,” emphasized the Prime Minister to the public.
Despite challenges such as the migration influx at the Evros border, a pandemic, an assertive neighboring country, an energy crisis, the conflict in Ukraine, and various natural disasters, Mitsotakis emphasized that “we have kept our nation resilient and our society unified, while also putting the economy on a growth trajectory.”
The economy is currently experiencing an annual growth rate of over 3%, which is twice the average rate of the Eurozone. Mitsotakis highlighted that this development has not burdened the middle class with excessive taxation or harmed pensioners. On the contrary, it has been accompanied by tax cuts, pension increases, and reductions in contributions. He stressed that the government is faithfully fulfilling the electoral promises made four years ago, down to the smallest detail.
He also addressed a report from an opposition newspaper that “boldly states in prominent headlines that 53% of Greeks do not support a second four-year term with Mitsotakis.” In response, he noted, “That means 47% do support it; I am confident we will win the elections by a significant margin on the first Sunday. They themselves acknowledge it.”
Mitsotakis further addressed allegations made by the opposition regarding households relying on coupons and subsidies to manage the rising cost of living. “We understand that subsidy assistance is a temporary measure. The long-term solution, I reiterate, lies in increasing salaries, reducing taxes, and fostering investment for economic growth,” emphasized the Prime Minister.
He concluded by stating that on the evening of May 21, New Democracy will be the party governing Greece for the next four years.
