ERBIL — An armed group affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northeast of Syria have abducted at least seven children within one month alone, an organization reported.

The Revolutionary Youth, also known as Jwanen Shorishger, recently kidnapped a child in the northern Syrian city of Raqqa to “forcibly recruit him”, the Syrian Network for Human Rights said in a statement.

The child was identified as Khalil Ibrahim al-Hassan al-Fadhel, 11, from the Mazzeh Shehadeh area near Al-Furat Hospital in Raqqa province, the statement added.

The abductee, whose father is in the prisons of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), used to live with one of his uncles, according to the statement, noting that the forces continue to “violate” civilians and children in their areas of control.

The abduction comes despite an agreement between the United Nations and the SDF to prevent child recruitment in northeast Syria. The practice, however, has persisted in the areas controlled by Jwanen Shorishger organization.
